**ISLAMABAD, July 2025** — Pakistan’s mobile phone manufacturing industry continues to gain momentum, with **14.24 million handsets produced locally** between January and June 2025, according to official data. In stark contrast, only **0.86 million mobile phones were imported** during the same period—highlighting a significant shift towards domestic production.
### Strong Growth in June 2025
In **June alone**, Pakistan assembled approximately **2.19 million mobile devices**, further cementing the country's growing capability in electronics manufacturing.
### 2024 Recap: Local vs. Imported Units
For the full year of 2024, local manufacturing hit **31.38 million units**, while mobile imports stood at just **1.71 million**, indicating a clear downward trend in dependence on foreign-made handsets.
### 2G and Smartphone Production Breakdown
Out of the total units assembled in the first half of 2025:
* **7.63 million were 2G feature phones**
* **6.6 million were smartphones**
This production trend aligns with the broader national shift toward digital connectivity. As of now, **68% of devices on Pakistan's mobile networks are smartphones**, reflecting increasing consumer preference for internet-enabled devices.
### Import Value Drops Significantly in FY2024–25
Pakistan saw a **21.31% year-over-year decline** in mobile phone imports by value, totaling **\$1.494 billion** in the fiscal year 2024–25. When measured in Pakistani rupees, this marks a **22.09% decrease**—a strong indicator of the country's progress toward self-reliance in the telecom sector.
### Short-Term Spike in Monthly Imports
Despite the overall decline, **June 2025 recorded a 39.6% month-over-month increase** in mobile imports, reaching **\$139.42 million**. Analysts suggest this could be due to specific model shortages or seasonal retail demand.
