Not a Single Drop Will Be Taken from Pakistan’s, PM Shehbaz Sharif Warns India for Indus Water Treaty

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday delivered a strong and unequivocal warning to India, cautioning against any attempt to disrupt Pakistan’s rightful share of the Indus River waters. Addressing the matter firmly, he declared that New Delhi would not be allowed to take “even a single drop” that belongs to Pakistan under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).

This sharp statement follows India’s recent move in April to challenge the decades-old treaty, a step that Islamabad views as a direct threat to regional stability. Pakistani officials have already termed any such action as an “act of war,” invoking provisions of the Vienna Convention to contest India’s stance.

The Indus Waters Treaty, brokered in 1960, ensures water rights between Pakistan and India for the Indus River system. Any unilateral attempt to alter these rights could trigger serious diplomatic and legal consequences on the global stage.
