Pakistan Army Inducts Advanced Z-10ME Attack Helicopters to Boost Combat Readiness.

The Pakistan Army has officially inducted the advanced Z-10ME attack helicopters into its aviation fleet, marking a significant step forward in its ongoing military modernization efforts. The development was confirmed by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday, underscoring a strategic shift in the Army’s integrated battlefield response capabilities.

The induction ceremony, held at the Muzaffargarh Field Firing Ranges, was overseen by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir. During the event, Field Marshal Munir also witnessed a live firepower demonstration of the newly deployed Z-10ME helicopters, showcasing their combat readiness and operational effectiveness. However, the ISPR did not disclose the exact number of helicopters acquired.

### A Leap in Army Aviation Modernisation

“The inclusion of this high-performance attack helicopter represents a major advancement in modernising Army Aviation,” said the ISPR. “It significantly strengthens our ability to respond decisively on the battlefield and counters a wide range of aerial and ground threats.”

The Z-10ME is a modern, all-weather combat platform, capable of carrying out precision strike missions both during the day and at night. It features state-of-the-art radar systems and electronic warfare technologies, making it a formidable force multiplier for the Pakistan Army.

### Background on the Z-10ME Helicopter

Manufactured by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, the Z-10ME was publicly showcased for the first time outside China at the Singapore Airshow in February 2024. At that time, Pakistan was identified as the only known export customer, though no official sales announcements were made during the event, according to Reuters.

Interestingly, China had previously sent three Z-10 helicopters to Pakistan in 2021 for evaluation. Those models reportedly failed to meet expectations and were returned. Nonetheless, analysts like Brian Cloughley, a former Australian defence attaché to Islamabad, had predicted that Pakistan would eventually consider the upgraded Z-10ME for future operations.

### Troop Interaction and Broader Strategic Context

While addressing troops at the Muzaffargarh ranges, COAS Munir commended the soldiers for their high morale, professionalism, and combat proficiency. He praised the effective demonstration of combined arms tactics, which he described as a clear reflection of the army’s commitment to maintaining a decisive operational edge in modern warfare.

In a separate statement, Field Marshal Munir emphasized the need for national unity and stronger civil-military coordination to confront evolving “hybrid threats” that challenge Pakistan’s security landscape.

### Strategic Implications

The addition of the Z-10ME helicopters aligns with Pakistan’s broader defense strategy aimed at enhancing operational readiness and diversifying its military capabilities. The move also reflects deepening defense ties between Pakistan and China, particularly in high-tech military hardware and joint security cooperation.
