India Warns Pakistan of Possible Tawi River Flood Under Indus Waters Treaty 🌊🇵🇰

India has officially issued a flood warning to Pakistan under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), cautioning about the potential risk of a major flood in the Tawi River near Jammu. The alert was shared by India’s High Commission in Islamabad on August 24 at 10:00 AM, despite India having suspended the IWT earlier this year.

This development comes at a time of rising tensions between the two neighbors. In recent weeks, India has expelled Pakistani nationals, shut down the Wagah-Attari border crossing, and withdrawn from the SAARC visa exemption agreement, adding further strain to bilateral relations.

The flood warning has revived concerns over water disputes between the two countries. Pakistan has previously taken the matter to the Court of Arbitration, objecting to India’s hydro projects on the western rivers that fall under the treaty’s provisions.

The Indus Waters Treaty, signed in 1960, has long served as a rare platform for cooperation between Pakistan and India, ensuring water-sharing rights despite political differences. However, with fresh disputes emerging, the future of this agreement remains uncertain.
