The federal government has officially approved handing over the operations of Islamabad International Airport to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The decision came during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Inter-Governmental Commercial Transactions, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. According to officials, the agreement will be structured under a government-to-government (G2G) framework, ensuring transparency and long-term cooperation between the two nations.
This development is part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to attract foreign investment and enhance the efficiency of state-owned enterprises. By involving international partners, the government aims to improve service standards, upgrade infrastructure, and reduce the financial burden on public institutions.
Inaugurated in 2018, Islamabad International Airport has faced several operational and financial challenges over the years. By outsourcing its management, authorities expect better passenger services, streamlined operations, and improved revenue generation.
The step also reflects Pakistan’s growing economic ties with the UAE, opening the door for future collaborations in aviation and other key sectors.
