Urumqi Resumes Imports of Pakistani Seafood After 2 Years”

Urumqi Tianshan International Airport has reopened its inspection facility for imported seafood after two years, with Pakistan becoming the first country to resume shipments.

A fresh consignment of 1,292 kilograms of seafood—including black pomfret, prawns, hairtail, and grouper—landed in Xinjiang on China Southern Airlines flight CZ6008 from Islamabad. The arrival was made possible after two months of close coordination between Pakistani exporters, Chinese importers, customs authorities, and airport officials.

This development highlights Pakistan’s growing role as a key seafood supplier to China. The country’s deep-sea fisheries are renowned for producing premium-quality seafood, which continues to gain popularity among Chinese consumers for its freshness and taste.

The reopening of Urumqi’s cold chain and inspection facilities not only strengthens bilateral trade but also enhances regional connectivity under China’s expanding import network. For Pakistan, it opens the door to a larger share in China’s booming seafood market, creating opportunities for exporters and strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
