Heavy monsoon downpours have tragically claimed the lives of eight people in Karachi, as authorities brace for more rain in the days ahead. The situation has disrupted daily life, flooded key roads, and brought the city's strained infrastructure to the brink.
According to rescue teams, one man in his sixties, Muhammad Ishaq, was electrocuted in North Karachi. In Gulistan-e-Jauhar, a wall collapse killed a woman and three children, while an 8-year-old boy was fatally injured in Orangi Town under similar circumstances. Two individuals—one in North Karachi and another in DHA Phase 6—suffered fatal electrocutions. Additionally, a 28-year-old man lost his life in a fire at a Malir petrol pump .
Rainfall was widespread across Karachi and beyond, with the Met Office reporting over 100 mm of rain city-wide. Some areas received exceptional amounts: Gulshan-e-Hadeed recorded 145 mm, Kemari 137 mm, Jinnah Terminal 135 mm, and Saadi Town 123 mm .
Other districts across Sindh—including Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Hyderabad, Matiari, and others—also experienced significant rainfall .
Sindh’s Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has urged all agencies to remain on high alert, ordering that machinery and personnel be ready for immediate deployment. He emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of drains and nullahs to prevent urban flooding .
